TightLines ("we," "us," or "our") operates an SMS-based fishing report and conditions alert service for Long Island, NY anglers. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use our service.
Information We Collect
When you interact with TightLines, we may collect the following information:
- Phone number — Collected when you text FISH to subscribe. Used solely to send you fishing reports and respond to your messages.
- Location preferences — The Long Island sub-region(s) you choose (e.g. North Shore, South Shore, East End, Offshore). Used to send you relevant local reports.
- Fishing preferences — Inferred from your questions and interactions to provide better responses.
- Catch reports and questions — Any text messages you send to TightLines, including fishing questions and reports you share.
- SMS metadata — Message timestamps and delivery status, used for troubleshooting and service reliability.
How We Use Your Information
- Send you automated fishing report digests via SMS based on conditions in your area
- Respond to your on-demand fishing questions using AI-powered analysis of current reports and NOAA data
- Deliver tide, water temperature, and wind condition alerts relevant to your selected region
- Improve the accuracy and relevance of our fishing reports over time
We never sell, rent, or share your phone number or personal data with third parties for marketing purposes.
Location Data
Your location preferences (e.g. "North Shore" or "East End") are stored to filter reports relevant to you. This location data is never shared with other users or any third party. We do not collect GPS or precise location data.
Third-Party Service Providers
We use the following services to operate TightLines. These providers process data only as needed to deliver our service:
- Twilio — SMS delivery and receiving. Subject to Twilio's Privacy Policy.
- Supabase — Secure database hosting. Data is encrypted at rest and in transit.
- Anthropic (Claude AI) — Processes fishing reports and your questions to generate summaries and answers. No personally identifiable information (name, phone number) is sent to Anthropic.
- NOAA — Public tide, weather, and water temperature data. No user data is sent to NOAA.
Data Retention
- Phone number and preferences — Retained while your subscription is active. Deactivated when you text STOP.
- SMS logs — Retained for 90 days for troubleshooting, then automatically deleted.
- Fishing reports — Aggregated data with no personal information, retained indefinitely.
You may request complete deletion of all your data at any time by emailing fishon@usetightlines.com.
How to Opt Out
You can unsubscribe at any time. Simply reply STOP to any TightLines message or text STOP to +1 (862) 298-5115. You will receive a confirmation and no further messages. To re-subscribe later, text FISH.
Security
We implement reasonable security measures to protect your information, including encrypted database storage and secure API connections. However, no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure.
Children's Privacy
TightLines is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify active subscribers via SMS.
